Film Screening: STEVE THE VAMPIRE and an Exhibition of Ten Years of Elmwood Productions!

On March 3, 2012 Paris In Plantsville will open a new exhibition to celebrate the Ten Years of Elmwood Productions! 

The gallery will be filled with puppets from Elmwood's films, behind the scenes photography, character designs, and more.
To kick of the event and as part of our monthly film series we'll be screening
"The Complete Steve The Vampire" 

The film follows the adventures of Steve who was turned into a vampire as a teenager and although now in his mid-twenties, he just can't catch a break trying to prove himself in the vampire community. Between his overbearing and in denial mother, his indifferent girlfriend, and his unlikely friendship with Dracula, he still manages to keep his head on straight and do his best to avoid being staked by the local vampire slayer.

And all he wants to do is hang out, watch some Star Trek, and enjoy a good glass a blood...


The screening is also part of Paris In Plantsville's monthly film series showcasing independent films made in and connected to the local film community.


And on March 31st we will also be screening our feature film
"Josh and Todd: The Story of a Man and is Puppet" to close out the exhibition.


For both screening the doors open at 7:00 PM, and the films start at 8:00PM.
As with all our screenings it is a free event, but donations to the gallery are appreciated. The donations keep events like this happening!

This Saturday Night - THE DREAM PLAY

Kicking off our monthly film series for 2012 is THE DREAM PLAY.

Each month in 2012 Paris In Plantsville will be showcasing an independently made film (or film shorts) with a connection to the local film community. 

This month's film stars West Hartford native Tim Burke in the lead role of Mark. 

Mr. Burke will also be joining us for the screening.

Doors open at 7:00 PM, with the film starting at 8:00 PM. As with all our screenings it is a free event, but donations to the gallery are appreciated. The donations keep events like this happening! We hope you join us 2/11/12!


The Dream Play
Written and Directed by I. Michael Toth
Synopsis:
Mark is an actor who moves to Chicago with his dog where he finds work acting in “The Dream Play” by August Strindberg at a local theater. During rehearsals, he develops new friendships and a conflict with the eccentric but demanding director of the play. While trying to master the multiple roles he was cast to play, he recollects a gray rainy day from his past when a chance encounter with a hitch...hiker changed the course of his life and his identity. As the rehearsal process drags on, Mark realizes that opening night and payday are far off. Struggling to make ends meet, he answers an ad placed on the theater’s message board by a mysterious young woman. This leads him to participate in a private play that will alter his perspective on acting, theater and his own life. Mark discovers that he is in an ambiguous place where the difference between life and art and what is “real” and what is “make-believe” disappears.

Juror Information:
Stanwyck E. Cromwell was born in Georgetown, Guyana, and is a second-generation artist. He inherited his artistic gift from both of his parents. In addition, Cromwell credits much of his growth to his cousin and mentor, Maurice C. Jacobs, a noted Guyanese artist, who nurtured him, and was resourceful in laying the foundation for his artistic development. Cromwell graduated from the former British Guiana Educational Trust High School, with high honors in art and other foreign languages, and was employed at Guyana Lithographic Company, as a graphic artist. Come see a small gallery in Hartford crammed salon style with a culmination of work over the last 5 years. The gallery will literally be BUSTING AT THE SEAMS!!!! 

The gallery is awesome but small so Christian will be be literally covering as much wall space as possible, come see for yourself.

Simultaneously Charter Oak will be showing two other galleries full of work from some of Connecticut's own tattoo community.

A night of interesting people and art! 

Hors doeuvres & refreshments will be provided (FREE WINE, CHEESE, ETC.)

Details to enter:
- You may submit as many works as you would like
- Painting, Photography, Sculpture and video art are all accepted.
- Paintings may be no larger than 42 inches wide
- Sculptures must fire within 3x3ft space
Cost:
- Each work entered is $15 for non-members $10 for members
Unacceptable work:
- Work the is not properly wired or able to be hung on wall
- Work that is offensive to children (we do teach classes to young children during week nights after all)

*DROP OFF/PICK UP DATES*
- Drop off for work will be January 19th-22nd 12-8 p.m.
- The work may be subject to not being accepted into the show as seen fit by our honorary juror, so, everyone entering will be contacted via e-mail if his or her work was accepted or not accepted
- Pick up for unaccepted work will be Jan 28-30 12-8 p.m. ( work not picked up 3 days after date set may be subject to storage fee )

Two Years Strong! We're Still here!

We're always excited when there are art happenings in Central Connecticut, and it always excites us to see art events making waves here too.

Bare Bones in Bristol was looking to really be something special.  Sadly soon they will be shutting their doors.

Sorry to see you go.  More arts related places in the area is good for everyone, and we wish you the best out there, and in your search for a new venue...

We want to screen them in 2012!

Paris In Plantsville is looking for Independent and local films to screen at the gallery!

Last year we screened two fantastic indy films - Josh and Todd: The Story of A Man and His Puppet, and I Need That Record! - and we had a great response!

So this year we want to do it more!
